Beacon House
The
Joan Van Orman Beacon House is an ODADAS (Ohio Department of Alcohol and
Drug Addiction Services) certified women's halfway house with a maximum
occupancy of nine women (ages 18 and older) and three children (up to age
12). While lengths of stay are individualized, it takes an average of 4-5
months to successfully complete the program. Priority admission is given
to pregnant women, IV users and Wayne/Holmes County residents.
Clients are taught that sobriety and recovery must be incorporated into a way of life, which includes honesty and a daily commitment to an alcohol/drug-free lifestyle.
The Beacon House program includes:
- Assessment - Individualized client plans
- A structured living environment in which daily living skills that foster recovery are practiced.
- Monitored mandatory attendance at self help recovery groups, (AA, CA, etc.)
- Individualized therapy sessions
- Group counseling
- Relapse prevention groups
- Client education related to alcohol and other drug addiction
Additional services and activities available as part of the Beacon program include pastoral services, educational/vocational services and recreational activities. During the transition phase, clients are assisted with housing issues and are referred to aftercare services.
