Friends and Family Support
Caring about someone who is abusing or addicted to alcohol or other drugs can be very stressful. It affects not only spouses or partners but also children, parents, friends and others.
STEPS offers services for family & friends of chemically involved individuals. The program is to help them understand the nature of chemical dependence as an individual and a family illness. We try to help family members recognize how their behavior and emotions can become increasing unmanageable due to their preoccupation with and attempts to control the dependent person's chemical use. Another goal is for family members to take responsibility for their own feelings and behavior regardless of the dependent person's desire to seek help for him/herself. In addition, the individual experiencing the chemical dependency does not need to be a client of STEPS in order for the family member to receive support.
STEPS employs skilled and caring staff to work with our clients through education, individual counseling and group interaction.
